I love introductions. And small talk. Describe myself in 150 words? No problem. Easiest task in the world. I could write a book about it. Maybe these are the opening lines of the book. I also like to digress.
About me. Indian woman, now in America. The typical run of the mill software engineer turned actor who loves heavy metal. I wrote a one-woman show about my journey from India to America. Fifteen-hour flight. That's the three-word flash fiction sad version. The whole thing's an hour-long, but you didn't really miss anything.
No one gave me a word limit so I'm gonna keep going.
This is a great space to tell you the story of how I came up with the idea for my show and what makes me different from other actors. Why should you hire me? That is a good question to which I have no answer.
I'm Priyanka Shetty and I am an actor, director, and playwright. I graduated from the University of Virginia (UVA) with a Master of Fine Arts in Acting. I currently teach at the UVA Department of Drama.
The most interesting thing I do is my original work. I am currently working on my triptych:
The Elephant in the Room (my one-woman show), #Charlottesville (about the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville VA constructed verbatim from interviews with local residents) and lastly,
The Wall (about immigration issues in America)
I am currently touring with The Elephant in the Room. My most recent performance was at John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
